Thanks Barbara, Rachel and Keith for providing some insight into the above.
I am interested because 1) I have a chronic, debilitating, disabling illness and 2) I am doing a Ph.D. which examines the relationship between chronic illness and quality of life.
I understand that there is no an easy answer to this question, there are great similarities between the two, but equally there are differences.
Maybe there are more areas of similarities, maybe it depends upon the nature of the chronic illness. Who knows!!!
There is job discrimination in both, issues of mobility in both, economic changes etc.,all impacting lifestyle and restricting choices. Maybe one is more observable than the other.
I certainly do not see the issue as chronic illness "VS" disability or that one is more "deserving" than the other.
I certainly appreciate people's suggestions as I am trying to clarify the issue for myself both personally and for my Ph.D..
Irene
