INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE:
WOMEN IN ITALY 1946-1960

University of Glasgow, 6-7th September 2002

CALL FOR PAPERS

Studies of the history and cultural activities of women in 20th Century
Italy have tended to concentrate either on the years of War and
Fascism, or else on the feminism of the late 1960s and 1970s. The
intervening period has come under much less scrutiny. It is the aim of
this conference to bring together specialists from a variety of
disciplines to develop a deeper understanding of the social and
cultural history of women in those years of upheaval and readjustment.
There will be a number of invited keynote speakers from Italy, United
Kingdom and North America. Proposals for further papers in English or
Italian are now invited. They may be on any relevant topic, but are
particularly welcome if they fall under one or more of the following
headings:

Public and private: the domestic sphere and the family; women and work;
women and the Catholic Church; women and the law; public life and
prominent women.
Representations of women: in literature, film, advertising, television;
ideals and realities
Artistic expression: female writers, artists, performers and their work
Scandals and controversies: crossing boundaries and breaking rules;
debate on prostitution

Proposals for papers (an abstract of approx. 500 words) should be sent
by email to the conference organizer, Dr Penelope Morris (University of
Glasgow): [log in to unmask]

Deadline for receipt of proposals: 21st February 2002

It is intended that a selection of papers will be published in an
edited book.

CONVEGNO INTERNAZIONALE: DONNE IN ITALIA, 1946-1960

Università di Glasgow, 6-7 settembre 2002

CALL FOR PAPERS

mondo del lavoro; le donne e la Chiesa cattolica; le donne e la legge;
Scandali e controversie: andar controcorrente e infrangere le regole;

Penelope Morris (Università di Glasgow): [log in to unmask]
