We had an incident when a near side pregnancy test was negative, and the patient
returned with an ectopic within a day or so. Her initial discharge diag was UTI,
since her urine was dipstix positive for likely UTI.
The near side preg testing is unreliable in 'unclean/infected' urines -and
states so on the instructions.
Remember UTI's are common, so this reduces the sensitivity of this form of
testing. If in doubt, do BHCG.
We have quality assurance samples sent to the lab for checking.
