Some small web hosting companies imagine that they can invent their own
laws, and ignore the existing commercial and consumer laws. You can see
that when they talk about an 'illegal' breach of terms, as if there was
some criminal sanction behind contract laws. A lawyer's letter to their
registered business address pointing out what the law really is can
sometimes get them to take action. This may or may not be worth doing
depending on how much money is at stake. But if it turns out the whole
ISP and web hosting industries use the same unfair terms and conditions
biased against their customers, maybe JISC should take collective action
like Universities UK did over the copyright agreement.
