Dear all,
For the last 9 months or so we've been running a pilot project here that
has applied a "Web content filter" (SquidGuard) to Web browsers installed
in our teaching classrooms (i.e. student areas). The pilot has met with a
mixture of complaints (from the students) and praise from management :-).
We've now reached the point of deciding whether or not to carry on with it
and possibly extend it to other areas of the campus (such as staff
PCs/browsers).
Without wanting to embark on a philosophical discussion of the rights and
wrongs of filters, would anyone like to let me know (publicly or privately)
if their institution:
(a) has implemented a content filter for students
(b) has implemented a content filter for staff
(c) has considered implementing a filter for either group but then
abandoned the idea (I'd really like to know the reasons for this too please!)
(d) has anyone spent real money on a commercial filter product? Any
recommendations?
Thanks for any assistance.
