TRANSPORT PLANNING SOCIETY
TRANSPORT PLANNING SKILLS INITIATIVE
PROJECT MANAGER
FACING THE SKILLS CHALLENGE
The implementation of the UK Government’s 10 Year Transport
Plan faces a serious challenge as a result of the shortage of skilled
Transport Planners. The Transport Planning Society is co-
ordinating a Transport Planning Skills Initiative (TPSI), with the
support of DTLR, DfEs, and other professional institutions and
organisations. A plan for action has been agreed by the TPSI
Management Group and the initiative will be formally launched at a
high level seminar on 29th April 2002.
The TPSI Management Group is seeking to appoint a Project
Manager to assist with the co-ordination and management of the
Action Plan over the course of its first twelve months, and to assist
in developing long term arrangements for the successful
implementation of its objectives. This will be a challenging and
stimulating role, requiring good inter-personal and communication
skills, and the ability to manage a complex work programme.
It is envisaged that this post will require flexible working
arrangements, and an overall level of input equivalent to “half time”.
As a guide, it is anticipated that the post would be let as a contract
to the successful applicant for around £25k including expenses.
If you feel that you have the skill and enthusiasm for this
opportunity to make a difference, please contact Felicity Warren
(e-mail: [log in to unmask], tel: +44(0)118 950 0761) who will
supply you with a copy of the Job Description and the TPSI Action
Plan. The Job Description can be viewed at
http://www.jiscmail.ac.uk/files/UTSG/tpsjobdesc.doc and the
Action Plan at http://www.jiscmail.ac.uk/files/UTSG/tpsaction.doc
Applications should be submitted before 12th April 2002.
