Hi Mike,
I'm not aware of any handy review-type literature on pedestrian movement and
modelling, but if you (like Helbing) are interested in more microscopic
aspects of pedestrian movement behaviour, there are a number of sources you
could look up. PEDFLOW, our own agent-based model, is being developed
according to empirical studies of naturalistic movement behaviour: you can
find more details on our website (http://www.dcs.napier.ac.uk/pedflow).
Other groups working on this include Alan Penn's group at the Bartlett
School of Architecture (and its spin-off company), and Winnie Daamen, Piet
Bovey & Serge Hoogendoorn at the Delft University of Technology. Other
models you may know of include Blue & Adler's cellular automata model and
Timmermans' model of pedestrian movement in shopping areas.
Hope this helps,
Alex Willis

Subject: pedestrian modelling
I would like to know if any member of this list knows of any good
bibiliographic sources and / or web sites that deal with pedestrian
modelling and movement. I know of Helbings site in germany but what I
really want to know if there are any good sources summarising theory and
practice which would help me get up to speed fast
Thanks
Mike Batty
