Seminar
Wednesday 26 June 2002
Development in the Shadow of London
Does proximity to a big city give nearby regions greater benefits - or
greater problems? Are issues of displacement and equality in
development opportunities taken seriously or taken for granted? This
seminar looks closely at the regions around London - putting the
situation in an EU context and reflects critically on current regional
development agenda. Are regeneration initiatives being given the same
emphasis for regions surrounding major metropolitan centres or is easy
to get lost in the shadows with focus on big urban issues.
With the Government's regional white paper due out in May 2002, this
timely conference will seek to present the real achievements and
limitations of regional governance particularly looking at the regions
around London, to a wider audience.
This seminar would be of interest to:
· Practitioners and policy makers involved with regeneration, economic
development and community renewal in the UK · Associated industry
professionals · Representatives from central and local government ·
National regeneration initiatives and organisations · Community and
volunteer organisation · Stakeholders and partners in local
regeneration · Academics and researchers · and anyone interested in
reflecting critically on meaningful sustainable local area
regeneration
