Apologies for cross postings.
Following the success of the 1st call for papers, when many good abstracts
were received and accepted for presentation as full papers during the
congress, the congress organizing committee continues the call for abstracts
on all nominated topics and particularly for topics related to community
relations, planning and management case studies, contemporary challenges and

International Federation of Park and Recreation Administration
Institute of Parks and Recreation (Singapore)
IFPRA Asia-Pacific Congress 2002
Singapore, October 21 24 2002
2nd CALL FOR PAPERS
THEME: Parks and Recreation in the Information Age
In the 21st Century, parks and recreation will become a major focus and
concern for many planning authorities. With the unprecedented intensity and
scale of urbanization, coupled with the ever-changing development of
information technology, people will value intimate contact with nature and
increasingly seek diverse and new recreational opportunities. As we are
forced to come to terms with the rapid changes in so many different fronts,
how are we to continue to meet the needs of the people and their
expectations?
The IFPRA Asia-Pacific Congress will focus on the parks and recreation
industry in the 21st Century, and aims to showcase the various best
practices in parks and recreation in the Information Age. This particular
focus is highly relevant because many cities and towns around the world are
confronted by similar challenges that have taken on a global and
international dimension.
Globalization will influence every cityıs condition and living environment.
Hence, attractive and quality living environments will play an increasingly
larger part in the quality of life of citizens. Cities, which have
effectively and seamlessly incorporated parks and recreation into their
development, will successfully attract talented, interesting and creative
minds.
The organizers of the IFPRA Asia-Pacific Congress recognize this importance
and aims to provide a forum for participants from around the world,
particularly from this region, to exchange and share new ideas and
experiences. The five sub-themes:
I New Century, New Challenges
II Parks and Recreation: A New Profession
III The Contributions of Parks and Recreation to Society
IV Looking Back, Moving Forward
V Community Involvement in Parks and Recreation
