Contract number: HPMI-CT-1999-00063
Visiting Researcher - SuDS Retention ponds: Total measurement and evaluation

HR Wallingford has been awarded a Marie Curie Industry Host Fellowship to
support a visiting researcher. The research post is to take part in the
environmental measurement (ecological and chemical) of SuDS Retention
Ponds, the management of Retention Ponds and the Whole Life Costs of
Retention Ponds, and in the assessment of the impact of traditional urban
drainage on streams.

The work requires a researcher with post graduate qualifications related to
environmental freshwater water quality measurement, preferably with
experience in field data collection and biological index models. The
candidate will also preferably have an understanding of urban drainage
pollution issues and the current drainage developments in Best Management
Practices.

It is anticipated that this project will largely be based upon field
measurement of a relatively small number of Retention Ponds in UK. As with
all field exercises, generic findings are likely to be difficult to
determine. However, specific cases will be based upon collecting as much
real data as possible, and will provide industry with greater confidence of
the practical issues which need to be addressed and the variability that
exists. The project will fill a number of holes where questions remain
unanswered.

The post is offered for 18 months, starting in June 2002, and will be based
at HR Wallingford, close to Oxford with short involvement on measurement
campaigns in various sites across the UK. The post will be supervised by
Bridget Woods-Ballard with support from Richard Kellagher (HR Wallingford).

Eligibility: Candidates must be from an EU country (excluding UK) or state
associated to the 5th European Research Programme (Bulgaria, Cyprus, Czech
Republic, Estonia, Hungary, Iceland, Israel, Latvia, Liechtenstein,
Norway, Poland, Romania, Slovak Republic or Slovenia) and have completed
Doctoral studies or equivalent.
Gross salary: 3128 Euro/month (Post-Doctoral)
Mobility allowance: 400 Euro/month
Closing date for application: 24 May 2002
