Dear Colleagues,
Ascidians possess a wide range o antimicrobial agents (peptides
usually) in the body fluids. Most of these agents have potent
antibacterial activity against a range o Gram positive and negative
bacteria residing within the circulating blood cells (Ciona,
Clavelina, etc). It has also been stated that these agents may offer
some protection against predation, digestion or epibiosis... What
about the peptides from Lissoclinum perforatum (lissoclinotoxins?).
I have been through 16 papers (mostly chemistry) and I couldn't find
more than I said above about the role of the lissoclinotoxins.
I would appreciate anything you can track down...
Thanks a lot,
Frank.
