Arthur, Whoops! This one has misfired a little. I
wanted to write a poem about there being 'three people
in this' relationship, to coin a phrase, when te third
is pain, pain which seems to have an autonomous life,
hi-jacking, distorting, having to be considered and
allowed for, and this a pain which the specialists say
has no longer a cause other than that the nervous
system is still carrying the message of pain from some
previous cause. As I sometimes do I wrote a couple of
drafts which were more explicit before writing this
one. The personality the pain has is not really a
friendly one. (Although there may be some mode of
therapy, for all I know, which proceeds by getting to
know and befriend your pain, that can't work unless
the bearer of the pain wishes to follow that course.)
So I designated the personality as being that of an
offender. There are obviously overlaps between medical
and forensic investigations. Sorry to have written
confusingly. I by no means meant to diminish the
gravity of the situation for some one who has been the
victim of a criminal offender.
 cheers, cara
