Bob, I am sorry the poem failed for you. I have a close-up picture of a
grouse lying on the grass in front of a picture window. There is such
intricacy there, such harmony and delicacy in the feathers. And I have often
looked at pictures of undersea life--all the myriad kinds of fish and
coral--and all I could see or think of is what a splendid thing was involved
in their creation. Louise Bogan said "If there is no God, why isn't the
universe all dark brown?" I think, in terms of philosophy, that Joseph
Campbell and C.S. Lewis have both echoed my own feelings or I have echoed
theirs. I just see the world in those terms. Believe me, I am no Pollyanna
either. Also, I only have to look around to see that God has a great sense of
humor. He must have put leftover parts into the duckbilled platypus.
