The longest has to be 'smiles' ....single count and a 'mile' between the
first and last letter. I've been pulling early Christmas crackers!! Arthur

By the way your hunt for the longest single syllable word do you accept

Arthur, ed endings add length, and this is one of the best. Not all words
take them: springged (ouch).
ings and ers usually add count.
Yours is not only long count, but lengthy to say.
But I still wonder what the longest in both cases would be without a suffix.
I actually thought it had been done and someone had found it on the net. I
found a site that may have it but it is several pages and I haven't had time
to read

And better one of you poetic types would give us a poem with long
sound/short sound meter.
Smiles.
