I enjoyed this (missed it first time round) and think the two similes are
apt.
Personally I thought "bunches of words" OK, well suited to the flower
arranging idea.
"after which I almost always" seems superfluous, adding little.
Yes, it does warm the firemaker twice: once when chopping and once when
lighting. Interesting idea.
