No thing is
emptyness is no thing
nothing

no thing is
Poetry is is
no thing

noun
poetry isn't
the sum total of all the somethings that existed before tomorrow
the root factor of all the nothings that existed the first yesterday
poetry is
my bloodshot eye
an empty shot glass
a rusted cross
her touch
a baby's touch
a single note heard in a second growth pine forest
the whistle for a dog
a daffodil after a driving rain
everything

BTW, Keith, re your question about song vs poetry. In some cases, there is
none. Ceck out 4 or 5 songs by the Dixie Chicks. I don't have the liner
notes handy, but one is about a soldier and the other an old man is the
speaker.
Pure poetry and I wish I had written the latter.
