white RV's and logging trucks
make poor neighbors on muddy roads
streaks of brown race across the surface
old wipers blur the road
*
cormorants spread their wings
to air dry January's wet sun
near the river gulls huddle against the storm
eagles watch the river
*
the comfort of electric blankets
disappears power failure
gumbo's glow stays with me through the night
a loon dives the trout pond
*
steelhead shake off another hook
before we round the first bend
an eagle feeds
