>I was 10 and a three, four months, you almost 9.
this line doesn't make much sense. Might be a transatlantic thing, but it
sounds clumsy too.
Terri, the revision ran away from me. Fixed.

I got the feeling
there was more to the story
than is directly told, I found a lack of conflict, and the part where the
father
seemed to be preparing his sons for a time when he would not be around ( the
old
saying about idle hands and the devils tools).the time sounded late 40s
early
50s
David, always more, but this is some of my 50's childhood and liberal
borrows from the lives and stories of others. I would have not thought of
the father preparing anyone for anything. The general philosophy was play,
not work, Franklin to the contrary.

Much better, Gary. What about "Old Sol"? Can you think of something
fresher
or just hot sun? Sue
When you are right, you are right. Old Sol sounds like Old Soul to me which
is why, but sun is preferred as you say.
Thanks all for the comments.
I promise when I return from the weekend, I'll comment a bit more.
