Since we are on this subject, I will tell you that I just got an acceptance
from Cumberland Poetry Review here. It is a magazine that has been around
for a while (over twenty years), and I have also seen it. They publish
pretty good stuff. I got the address though out of 2000 Poet's Market. If
you don't have a copy of Poet's Market, you might think about getting one.
It lists 1,800 places to publish poetry, and all the details about each
publication. Several of the markets listed are British ones as well as
several Canadian ones. I am pretty sure you can find it on Amazon.com. I
try to buy one every other year to stay current on editors, etc. I should
now order the one for 2002. It is published by Writer's Digest Books in
Cincinnati, Ohio. Let me give you some warnings about submitting to any
magazine. If you possibly can, try to find out something about the magazine.
There are places out there you definitely would not want to see your work.
I didn't realize this until a friend brought me a whole box of magazines and
gave me an education. It seems he took it upon himself to send off for
sample copies. I was appalled at some of them. They were trash, and I mean
trash. So be careful. You also need to know, if you do not, that editors
are notoriously slow in responding, so I have decided that having only one
lifetime available I am going to start sending multiple submissions. I think
that is pretty common now. Hope this information is helpful.
