Nancy: Many thanks. I'd chosen the short lines, mostly dimeter, because the
more clipped, jerky read seemed to echo the disjointed memories. I had,
though, initially dithered about whether this should appear in quatrains.
Christina: Again, thank you. 'Broadcast' is a farming term for scattering
seed by hand. It doesn't have a hyphen. Yes, I'd bothered about the media
reference, but eventually decided that, as the poem's looking back to a
life at the turn of the 20th century, it could probably stand as is - just!
The last line is deliberately not dimeter; I'd wanted to broaden out here
to reflect the yearning for freedom. I'll reconsider this, though, if it
causes a hitch for people,
