Dear David,
I often ponder why poetry seems such a minority interest these days.
A few days ago I won a very nice prize from a consumer contest,-you know
the type where you have to say why you use Blobbo washing powder in 12 words
or less.
Hearing this, a friend remarked "Why don't you spend less time writing
those poncey poems ,and concentrate on competitions?"
Mmm, err, nothing like unsolicited criticism, is there?
Kind regards,
grasshopper

Subject: question: any good mags out there
Unfortunately, John, I think the answer's no.
Although there are many poetry magazines, as far as I can make out they are
only read by poets, and their circulation seldom exceeds a few hundred.
I've yet to find a poetry magazine in any of the national magazine stores.
There's occasional verse published in popular magazines, of course, but
it's mostly poor stuff, I think.
I often wonder, is this because people don't like poetry, or because poets
forgot how to write poems that people like?
Regards,
David
