In this country the poetry magazines are almost all published by colleges. I
have subscribed to several and really enjoyed them. They also feature
critical articles and short stories. Two of favorites are The Southern
Review and The Georgia Review. I think the readership is limited to
academics mostly. My opinion is that the general public could like poetry,
is in fact hungry for it. But they are unable to do the research to find the
good poetry. As a result they read things like "The Favorite Poems of Jackie
Kennedy." That book was on the New York Times best seller list recently. It
is a sad state of affairs.
