Dear Barbara,
I have searched in vain online for the painting I had in mind, but couldn't
find it.
As I recall it , it's like this:
At the centre of the painting is Christ's open hand, with a scorpion in his
palm. He is looking down at it, as if he is blessing it. Christ is shown as
totally un-pretty. He looks dumpy and squat, and his features are heavily
Semitic. After seeing the usual pretty pictures of Christ, the painting made
a big impact on me when I was a child.
As I mentioned I'm not a fan of Spencer's work in general, but this
particular painting spoke to me and I found it very moving.
Kind reagrds,
grasshopper

Gary, somehow this wouldn't come up for me...the wilderness series. You or
Grassy have another address somewhere? I find myself eager to view his work
before I comment on this poem, which is pretty amazing, Grassy, BTW.
Barbara
Grassy, not the one you mention but from the wilderness series. Linked in
