Dear Gary,
I apologised in an earlier message for the fact that I couldn't supply a
link- but I just couldn't find the painting online.(The estate charges
heftily for permission to post reproductions,so there aren't that many
Stanley Spencer paintings on the www.)
The painting I referred to was one of a series called Christ in the
Wilderness, in which Christ is shown with a scorpion on his palm.
Actually,I'd be interested if anyone can find it on the Web,as I heaven't
seen it for years and years-but the image has stuck in my head.
Again, I apologise,as I know it can be frustrating when a painting isn't
known to you, but I did have a really good search to try and find it.
Kind regards,
grasshopper

But what about Spencer's Jesus,
thickset and Semitic? By God, that Christ
might have roared, have done dark deeds
when the sun slept, turned the Red Sea--Grassy
Grassy, I like the poem but would like to see the work. I googled and found
two Spencers and their paintings: Stanley and his Jesus in the Wilderness
and Stanley-Stanhope's Jesus stomping grapes.
Do you have a url or link to the painting for artist?
Thanks.
Gary
