Bob,
Sissifactus is just my dog Latin coinage, I'm afraid, Christ made into
Sissy-also it reminded me a bit of Sisyphus. temples I put in plural to
suggest temples of the head.
Christina,
I'm not a great fan of Spencer myself, but his 'Christ in the Wilderness'
paintings did have a great impact on me when I were but a sprig -
particularly the one where he's holding a scorpion.
By the way, I apologise to anyone who doesn't know the painting, for not
being able to include a link to the painting in question.I couldn't find it
anywhere on the Net- because the estate charges so much for permission to
display his work that there aren't many of his paintings online. In fact, I
haven't seen it for ages-just going on memory.
Kind regards,
grasshopper

Hi grasshopper,
Not much to say except this is really great! Gobsmackingly good! So
energetic. So many deft touches:
"perhaps
a stroke of kohl, a dab
of myrrh, Emmanuel who wouldn't
shrink from a little moisturiser..."
(where dab is just a perfect word!)
and then:
"have done dark deeds
when the sun slept, turned the Red Sea
into burgundy and drunk and belched
and farted like a dreaming dog."
And how many other well-honed contrasts could I have chosen? (Plenty!)
My only queries... you write "temples" (plural) and I wonder if it
should/could be "temple" and I can't find "Sissifactus" in any reference
book I've got!
