I know that even trying to write about anything as heavily laden with
associations from the past as the subject of the rose can be self-defeating.
The rose more than any other flower here too carries heavy baggage
Seems the secret to writing about a rose is to not write about the rose,
that is not make the rose directly the subject of the poem. A bit of
slight of hand.
