pus of that industrial wen,
that slimes the lip of each pale child
with slugs of snot; encrusts our sleeves
and marks our lungs for later ills.
I don't think this poem would work as well without the ugliness. I wonder
what year this was and whether TB was epidimic there? If so, I could see
something about it added.
