Reminds me a little of the poem "Warning" by Jenny Joseph "When I am an old
woman I shall wear purple" I really like this version but think it needs a
bit more working on.
Sallie, yep. I had Warning in mind when I wrote it but had not read the
poem for years. I got the book out last night and another yep. Inner
garment comes from a verse in The Gospels where Jesus says: If a man sues
you for your inner garment, give him your outer.
Like the work of Eliot this is a poem to savour and take a bath in. I like
it a lot.
