Subject: New: The Day We Hit the Wall
A bit long, but I want to give you flavor of the writer's emotions this
day...
The Day We Hit the Wall
Fence segments unloaded near the School House
Curiosity animates the poets -
soccer, zoo, dog run, llama rides, bagpipe corral?
Speculation -
a poet's bread and butter
with an extra dollop of jelly
*
The critiqued lumber down the steps
concerned
contemplative
chagrined
at the poem's treatment
the critiquers bound
pumped
by the poem's excitement
A L L S T O P
FULL AHEAD REVERSE
shell shocked weak kneed fatigue
the lawn,
our lawn surrounded
the twofold path to lunch blocked
How could they do this?
It's unsafe.
Offensive.
Discourteous.
Now we have to walk around.
To me?
*
rising to the bait
like a catfish on the Big Muddy
construction a new cafeteria 7.5 million seats 600 before the funds lost
destination for politicians destruction of the old parking price increases
traffic increases crowded marginalized further marginalized gentrification
demonstration conversation -
picket signs
chained
storm the barricades
arrest
petition
guerilla art -
falls short of personal conflagration
another class lecture reading homework exercise laundry assignation
poets on the defensive
defeated by a Rent-a-Fence
and the lazy hazy days of summer
in 50 years
water skiing on the pond
softball fields in the meadow
hostels at the nurse log
condos at the wolf tree
until the last thimbleberry is pulled up
unsightly unprunable ungainly dull weed
