where shall we live
I was thinking perhaps
we might take a look around Edithvale
or Aspendale
maybe Bonbeach
or the Patterson Lakes
somewhere close to the beach
the cheap side of the highway
not far from the train
and a school
with no less than three bedrooms
and two places to work
an office for me and your studio
wouldn't it be nice to find
a place we can pay for
that doesn't need toil
and isn't the worst house on the street
do you think we'll be lucky like that
or will we be saddled
with a mountain of debt
from the peak of the bubble
buying at the wrong time
regretting our haste
it doesn't do to fall in love
with the first house you see
but did you notice the colours
the rich warmth of brown
and the love that the owner has used
in the placement of pots and ceramics
through the garden
we could soon make a wall
to screen off that work space
I've been swept off my feet
by the sun room
the ceilings are high
indian slate on the floor in the kitchen
the stovewas imported from Italy
it's as neat as a pin don't you think
we could be happy here
but
it's a little too far
from the beach and the train
really it's a measure on the small side
and will take every penny of budget
this is only the 'Heights
not the main drag
it may not appreciate
a shame
when the house is so pretty and warm
we might have been happy
it doesn't do to fall in love
too fast
