(a good gripe for editor,
lousy rhyme for grammar)
larger than normal smiles
skewered

The poet looked at what his critics suggested he cut:
this
and that
and the other thing
And he grabbed his pen,
gripped his eraser
tapped his key
rubbing out
deleting
crossing out
this
and that
and all the other things
When he was done,
he read the poem
and to his dismay found there was hardly enough left
for a minimal haiku
and tired from the effort
could no longer remember
this
and that
or anything
