A sijo set for a dialogue. C and C appreciated and comments on whether
sijos work in sets if you please.
The pheasant lives in a wooded lot behind my house. Today, I had to wait
for him to cross a street adjoining the back of of our property. The area
is mostly canyon, so there is little fear his habitate will be lost, though
we do have our share of stray cats.
Thanks.
Gary
What Will We Hear As Tomorrow's Voice?
I saw you today, young China Bird,
as you crossed the back streets.
Your journey seemed without care,
as if the road a dark wood trail.
Be careful not be too cocky, fancy bird;
I would miss your voice.
When all the buttercups are cut
and the foxgloves knocked flat,
where will you hide, Ring Neck?
When the daisies have been mowed,
will you leave the meadows, fancy bird,
and take away your call?
The forests will harvested, Old Cock,
houses built where once were trees;
feral cats and wild dogs will roam,
where once you raised your chicks.
Leave for the uplands while you can, fancy bird,
with quiet your harsh sound.
