Gan Eden #26/Isaac Sees
I.
The Mount manifests structures
one superimposes on the other
I watch the kid being consumed
witness as fire leaps like a lion
These edifices transfigure fire
War can be no more
II.
My mother hums her lullaby
to extol the Holy One
A celebration is planned
with sharp cheese goatmeat
spiced to perfection seasoned wine
Adonai's measure is passed
I still live
III.
Rebecca plays her strings
sings glory to our God
She is an old woman
Both sons are gone
one to kinsmen the other to exile
A savory stew is prepared
though I am past appetite
Now I am nourished by what
my blind eyes let me revisit
a fire and out of the ashes
a new day
