Seduction
Eons ago it seems, I took you by the hand
and led you to a shallow dune;
being daring, I wanted you
while waves foamed and retreated,
beneath stars and the shadows
of moonlight among sea oats.
You were hesitant, maybe shy,
but no one was near.
Whitecaps pounded in. And I,
elemental as Eve, whispered in your ear.
Temptress for only a little while.
Now I have a folded flag
covered with stars, and friends
whose words are lost to me.
Instead, I see your smile,
see other stars, faint pinpoints of fire,
over your wide shoulders.
Tonight the moon rides high,
a grinning skull. It lies.
And I lie close to you, sand scuffed,
replete, my lips swollen with your kisses,
and all around us the sea-white foam
hisses and retreats. I shall believe what I wish.
There is a sea in Eden, silver at the full.
