I remember reading that Auden thought that poetry was "memorable speech" and
that definition fits what I read here, Gary! I can hear the voice, and
(because of the full stops) hear the pauses too!

Bob, thanks. A rewrite below to change the long line 5 to two lines:
A gun was held to my head.
Once.
At a PTA meeting.
By a speaker.
In a talk.
About personal security.
But it was a gun.
Held to my head.
And I remember.

G. Stein did the style first and the use does seem to add a dimension to
some work.
