The spm_T000X.img files contains the t-values from the t-contrasts that
you have defined in the contrast manager. If you look at the list of
contrasts in the manager you will see which contrast corresponds to
which spm_T000X.img file.
The con000X.img files are simply the linear combinations of parameter
estimates (betas) that go into the numerator of the corresponding
t-value. So for example if you have a design with 5 regressors, you will
have five beta*.img files and e.g. the contrast [-1 1 0 0 0] will produce
a con000X.img file which is simply (beta_0002.img - beta_0001.img).
The main purpose of writing the con*.img files to disk is (I assume) to
facilitate second level analysis.
