SPM members may be interested in the new release of Presentation 0.47,
permitting real-time experimentation with Windows 2000/XP. It is now
available for free download at www.neurobs.com. Benchmark testing shows
that a temporal precision of Presentation running under Windows 2000 is
similar to that under Windows 95/98/ME systems and, on faster computers,
approaches the precision of dedicated hardware. For example, benchmark
testing of continuous animations and concurrent sound delivery on a PC with
a 900 MHz Athlon CPU showed that temporal imprecision exceeded 1.0 ms for
only 2.09 sec of a 9.52 hr test.
Version 0.47's principle new feature is its support for parallel and serial
port input and output on Windows 2000/XP. Version 0.47 also incorporates
the following enhancements in Presentation Control Language (PCL): access
to the parameter and status windows, new response classification features,
and access to stimulus and response data. Version 0.47 also registers file
extensions, has an improved installation procedure, and includes various
bug fixes. Note that Presentation on Windows 2000/XP cannot yet process
parallel port interrupts, so that it is possible for Presentation to miss
very brief trigger inputs (such as produced by some MR machines). This
deficiency will be remedied in the next release.
Thanks for your continued support: more than 2,500 individual researchers
have installed Presentation more than 5,400 times.
