I had the same error during a particular model estimation. I don't
think its due to your data set being too large. It may be because
the number of scans you have specified for one of your sessions is
less than the number that the design matrix would indicate. This is
because there is nothing to ensure that the number of scans selected is
correct.
Try to modify line 240 of spm_fmri_spm_ui.m from:
q=spm_get(Inf,'.img',str);
to:
q=spm_get(nscan(i),'.img,str);
This *should* ensure correctness, ie that the number of scans selected
is correct.
