Participation
Scientists and students working or interested in the field, from both Latin-American and
industrialized countries are welcome to attend. The Meeting will be conducted in English.
Please type, print in ink, or send by e-mail the participation form to our university.

Scope and Format
The central theme is the description, both from the experimental and a theoretical point
of view of the physical and chemical processes in molecular systems. The main topics to
be covered are:

· Structure and Energetic of molecular systems.
· Dynamics and reactivity of isolated molecular species.
· Dynamics of molecular species embedded in small and large clusters.
· Dynamics of molecules in the condensed phase (liquid, solid) and at surfaces.
· Control of chemical reactions.

The scientific programme will include invited lectures and poster sessions, with ample
time for discussion.

Conference Site
The conference will be held in Havana, Cuba. Havana, after several settlements was
finally founded in 1519 at its present location. The city came to be a highly relevant
place, first of all, due to its geographic position since it is washed by the Gulf Stream and this was a determining factor for navigation at that time which depended mainly on
the oceanic currents. There are important tourist and recreational resorts. The climate
is wonderful ( it never snows), the mean temperature in February is 21 oC.
The conference will be held in Old Havana, in the facilities of the Convento de
San Francisco de Asis. Participants will be accommodated within walking distance from
the conference site.
Old Havana, which was declared "World Heritage Site" by UNESCO in 1982, is the oldest
part of the city as well as the richest in history. One of the most interesting places
is a monastery, the Convento de San Francisco de Asis (Location: Plaza de San Francisco). The Franciscans were the first ones who settled down in the city in 1574. A church was
built in its present place in 1580, but a powerful storm destroyed it at the end of
the XVII Century. The building that the church now occupies, and its monastery were built
between 1728 and 1738.The church, considered the most outstanding of the city, was
rebuilt between 1992 and 1994. Nowadays, there is a concert hall there.

Registration and accommodation fee:

The fee for new registrations will be US$ 300. For Cuban participants the registration
fee will be 150 Cuban pesos. The package will cover conference fees, coffee breaks,
Book of Abstracts, welcoming reception, lunches and Conference dinner. Room prices for
the whole meeting, including breakfast (see below). The fee will be paid (in cash) in
Havana, when arriving to the meeting, before the welcome reception.

Deadlines:

Mail the enclosed pre-registration form to the Organizing committee before January 30,
2002. Please feel free to use copies of the form for your colleagues as necessary.

Contributions and invitation to submit a paper:
All persons interested in contributing to the meeting are expected to submit a one-page
abstract of their contribution before January 15, 2002. All papers will be displayed at
poster sessions or by invited speakers in oral presentations. Abstracts will be received
as electronic file (LaTeX,Word, etc.). A book of abstracts for contributed and invited
talks will be distributed to registered participants before the meeting.
We invite all speakers and participants to submit a paper in The Journal Physical
Chemistry Chemical Physics. A special announcement can be found in Molecular Dynamics
News.
Contributions in the form of regular papers should be handed in preferably at the meeting,
but other related contributions can be considered (deadline 31 March 2002). Further
information from: Professor V. Aquilanti (e-mail: [log in to unmask])

Note:
A programme with all the activities of the meeting will be sent to the participants and
