Post Doctoral Positions in Aerosol Spectroscopy
at the Waterloo Centre for Atmospheric Sciences
The WCAS laboratory aerosol group has immediate positions for persons with
experience in the optical spectroscopy of condensed phases. The majority of
current projects involve the use of Infrared and Raman spectroscopy for the
characterization of suspended aerosol particles. The experiments examine a
wide range of model atmospheric aerosols, from urban particulate matter to
tropospheric and stratospheric clouds, using flow tube reactors. The duties
include the development and application of spectroscopic methods to
determine the chemical composition, size distribution and number density of
the particles.
The Centre participates in a wide variety of collaborations with industry
as well as Federal and Provincial government atmospheric scientists. It
also has a tropospheric modelling group (see
http://www.science.uwaterloo.ca/wcas/) that operates Models-3 (the US
Environmental Protection Agency's third generation regional atmospheric
model) in conjunction with the MM5 meteorology model.
While this position emphasizes spectroscopy, some familiarity with
atmospheric chemistry, chemical kinetics and/or analytical methods would be
an asset. General information about other research projects in the WCAS may
be obtained at: http://www.science.uwaterloo.ca/~sloanj. The University of
Waterloo (http://www.UWwaterloo.CA/) is located about 100 km west of
Toronto. It has approximately 20,000 students.
The Kitchener-Waterloo urban area (http://win.uwaterloo.ca/win/) has a
population of approximately 250,000, and is surrounded by a pleasant,
mostly agricultural, rural region.
All positions are for one year initially, extendable subject to mutual
agreement and the availability of funds. Applicants should forward a CV and
two letters of reference to:
