The Astrophysical Institute and University Observatory of the
Friedrich Schiller University, Jena, Germany, invites interested
young researchers to apply for a Marie Curie Development Host
Fellow position. The institute is active in research on the
properties of the interstellar medium and the process of
star formation.
The successful applicant will work on the "Gas-Phase
Spectroscopy of Astrophysically Relevant Molecules and
Particles" project that started on January 2001. Since then
a cavity ring-down laser absorption spectrometer has been
developed ; it includes a heated pulsed valve and a discharge
device. The fellow will perform spectroscopic studies and
work on the improvement of the set-up in collaboration with
the staff of the laboratory astrophysics group.
Applicants are expected to be experienced in gas-phase
spectroscopy techniques (CRDS is a plus), molecular and/or
cluster spectroscopy, and the use of pulsed lasers. A first
postdoctoral experience would be appreciated.
Marie Curie Development Host Fellowships require the
following conditions : applicants must
- be nationals of an EU Member or Associated State, or have
resided in the EU for at least five years immediately prior
to their selection
- not undertake their fellowship in the country of their
nationality or recent centre of activity
- be 35 years old or less at the time of selection
- have a doctoral degree or at least four years of full-time
research experience at postgraduate level other than
doctoral studies
