2 PhD scholarships in the field of molecular cluster spectroscopy
are still available in a new graduate school in Goettingen, Germany
------------------------------------------------------------------
Starting in April 2002, 16 research groups from the Physics
and Chemistry Departments of Goettingen University and two
Max Planck Institutes are exploring intermolecular interactions
and their implications for biological and polymer sciences
in a new graduate school:
"Spectroscopy and Dynamics of
Molecular Aggregates, Chains, Coils and Networks"
Among others, two positions are still available in the field of
cluster spectroscopy. Possible research projects include:
- size-selective and direct absorption spectroscopy of
alcohol and water clusters: towards a deeper understanding of
hydrogen bonding and molecular recognition phenomena
- high-level ab initio calculations for neutral and charged
hydrogen-bonded systems, with particular emphasis given to
the effects of vibrational anharmonicity
- spectroscopic probing of the nanoparticle generation from
supercritical solutions: towards a deeper understanding of
ultrafine particle formation mechanisms
- spectroscopy and potential energy surfaces of alkyne
donor and acceptor complexes: towards a deeper understanding
of the dynamics of weak and unconventional hydrogen bonds
Highly motivated students holding a M.Sc. or
Diploma degree in Physics or Chemistry are encouraged to
apply for the tax-free 2-3 year scholarships, which range
from 1024 to 1673 Euro per month (depending on excellence,
family status, and availability). Goettingen is a lovely city
in the heart of Germany, its University has a worldwide
reputation in science.
