Hi Everyone,
I've been playing voyeur for far too long on socrel
and now the p.g. version.
I'm a Ph.D student in Ottawa, Canada, working with
Peter Beyer. My specific area of research is on the
development of spirituality in the workplace movements
as a form of social protest -- not what I expected to
find at all during my research, but that's what makes
fieldwork so fun!
I am also working on side projects related to other
aspects of spirituality, popular culture and
sociology, particularly mass media, both for its
religious/spiritual content and as an implicit form of
religion.
It sounds like people are working on so many
interesting projects - I appreciate having the
opportunity to hear about them.
If anyone will be attending the following conferences,
please let me know. I'd like to make an effort to
attend presentations of fellow students. If enough of
us are going perhaps we could set up for socrel p.g.
beer.
Crossroads in Cultural Studies Conference in Tampere,
Finland June 28 - July 2;
ASR in Chicago Aug 16 & 17;
and SSSR in Salt Lake City in October.
Looking forward to hearing more....
Wendy Martin
