Project Title: An Exploration of Teenage Parenting Experiences
of Young People of Bangladeshi, African Caribbean, Pakistani
and Dual Ethnic Origin in England.
Applications are invited for this exciting and innovative post
funded by the Department of Health - investigating Teenage
Parenting in Pakistani, Bangladeshi, African-Caribbean and Dual
ethnic origin in young people. The project will run for two years.
The successful applicant will have a pivotal role in the day-to-
day management and operationalisation of the research.
Experience in Transcultural Research and a Masters Degree is
essential. It is preferred that the successful applicant will hold a
PhD. Insight into teenage parenting and issues facing black
and ethnic minority communities are essential.
The post holder will be based in the Institute of General Practice
and Primary Care. Appointment will be on R1/R11 depending
on experience, additionally there may be opportunities within the
department to engage in teaching.
Background
The overall aim of the study is to provide an in-depth exploration
of the range of teenage parenting experiences in Bangladeshi,
African Caribbean, Pakistani and dual ethnic origin young
people in England. An in-depth qualitative approach will be
adopted drawing on the ethnographic tradition to depict the lived
experience of the
Young parents before and after becoming parents Our design
proposes the active involvement of teenage parents. The study
will take place in three settings: Sheffield, Bradford and London
(Lewisham, Lambeth & Southwark). The post-holder will be
based in Sheffield, but will be required to travel to Bradford and
London.
Job Purpose
The post holder will play a key role in ensuring that the project
deliverables are met and demonstrated as well as
having responsibility for the day-to-day running of the project

Key Tasks
Domain 1: Project Coordination
1.To assist and oversee the set-up of effective
communication networks between all partners
2. To establish the project website
3. To ensure deliverables are met on time by the research
team and successfully demonstrated to the funding
body.
4.To oversee logistical organisation of all research team
meetings and consultation with virtual reference group
5 .To act as a Webmaster for the project website
6. To establish and facilitate the local collaborative
research networks
7. Supervision of Local Project Workers, secretary, and
the provision of initial training
8. To produce in collaboration with the research team an
information leaflet
Domain 2: Project Research
1.To be familiar with research techniques necessary for the
successful implementation of the project from the ground
up
2.To be familiar with the literature in the area of teenage
parenting in minority groups and establish literature
storage and retrieval mechanisms
3. To assist in refinements to the research design

7. To contribute to final report producing initial drafts
