1. Web Pages From Scratch
An Introduction to Creating Web Pages
09:30 - 16:30 Tuesday 23rd July 2002
At Strathclyde University
For many sections of society the World Wide Web is becoming an essential
part of everyday life. Whether being used for commerce, research, education
or leisure, one of the key features of the web is the ease with which
individuals can publish on-line information. Even in a short space of time
sophisticated and exciting results can be achieved with relative simplicity.
This is a practical workshop for web users who wish to start creating their
own web pages. This updated workshop supercedes the popular and well
established Netskills workshop, "Authoring on the World Wide Web". Whether
you are providing page content for business, education or leisure, this
one-day workshop will give you the essential skills you need to make your
information available on the web.
Workshop Content:
The workshop will comprise presentations, demonstrations and hands-on
sessions with opportunities for questions and discussion. Participants will
each receive a workbook which contains workshop exercises, presentation
slides and other relevant materials.
Workshop Requirements
Participants are expected to be familiar with the windows desktop and MUST
have experience in writing pages in HTML. Knowledge of HTML tags such as for
including images and hypertext links is essential. Basic knowledge of CSS
and experience of client-side scripting languages such as JavaScript and/or
JScript would also be useful - although not essential. Experience of using
Microsoft Windows for opening and saving files and opening and closing
applications such as a Web browser would be helpful. Note that this workshop
does NOT require programming skills from participants, and is not designed
to provide comprehensive programming/scripting competency.
The cost of each workshop is 120 pounds for participants from UK higher and
further education. Other participants should contact Netskills for the
relevant fees. Note: Costs include lunch, morning coffee and afternoon tea.
Joining details and further information will be sent to participants prior
to the workshop.
Kind Regards
