e-BOOKS 2002: the 2nd Scottish annual seminar
Following on from the success of last year's "e-books: what's in them for
us" meeting, we would like to invite you to attend "e-books 2002: the 2nd
Scottish annual seminar".
Since our first seminar in June 2001, the e-book industry has undergone many
changes. e-book technologies continue to develop a pace however some of the
major e-book suppliers have had a very difficult year with company buyouts
and take-overs. And throughout the year, we information professionals have
continued to address the challenges that e-books present.
Our seminar will once again bring together speakers from major e-book
players including suppliers, publishers, librarians and researchers. The
speakers will explore hardware and software issues, different delivery
methods and models, the publisher's perspective and case studies from
information professionals.
The full detailed program will shortly be published, however we have already
confirmed the following speakers:
We are delighted to welcome our first international speaker, Esben Fjord
from Arhuus Public Library in Denmark. Esben will explain his library's
experiences of making e-books available to the general public. We have also
secured Linda Vendryes from Coutts to give us an e-books supplier's
perspective and Liz Stevenson from Edinburgh University who will describe
the challenges of introducing e-books into a large academic library. We also
hope to include a technology/development update from Ruth Wilson and Monica
Landoni of EBONI project and the publisher's perspective on e-books from Sam
Burridge of Palgrave Publishing
