Apologies for cross posting
Following the success of the 'Brain Games' pilot in November 2000,
at-bristol is extending the programme. The next series of 'Brain Games'
funded by NESTA (National Endowment for Science , Technology and the Arts)
will start with one week run on the 22nd March and continuing on 25th - 28th
March 2002.
Pupils from local Bristol schools will spend a week in Explore at-Bristol
learning about how their brains work, and then devising a game which
demonstrates the amazing abilities of their brains. They will use our
exhibition as well as at-Bristol's media and IT education facilities
throughout their time here. Games developers and brain scientists will also
be involved during the week.
We are looking for keen communicators who would be willing to act as
'mentors' during the week. Although experience of and interest in science
communication is desirable, the ability to motivate students and facilitate
participation is more important than scientific background. We are looking
for two mentors who will be paid to work on the project alongside at-Bristol
staff. Please indicate whether or not you have previously had a police
check.
If you are interested, please send your CV and state your experience with
young people/communicating science and which dates you would be available.
Closing date: 12th March 2002.
Further 'Brain Games' workshops are planned during July and August 2002.
Expressions of interest for mentoring in July and August should include
availability during this period.
Many thanks
Catherine Aldridge
