Apologies for cross posting...
The Chairman of the BA, Professor Colin Blakemore, is delighted to announce
the appointment of Dr Roland Jackson as the BA's new Chief Executive. Dr
Jackson will succeed Dr Peter Briggs in September 2002.
Roland Jackson is currently acting head of the Science Museum in London,
having previously held responsibilities in the areas of education, public
programmes, access initiatives, developing and running interactive or
'hands-on' galleries and aspects of multimedia, especially via the web. He
has worked in industry and education and has published in a variety of
contexts. He was both an undergraduate and postgraduate at Oxford
University, completing his DPhil in Molecular Immunology at Exeter College
in 1979. Dr Jackson brings a wealth of experience to the BA, having worked
with Government departments and education business partnerships, as well as
in both the public and private sectors.
Professor Blakemore said: "Roland Jackson will bring to the BA wide
experience in education, information technology and the world of museums and
science centres. It will further cement the relationship between the BA and
the Science Museum in South Kensington."
On being offered the position at the BA, Dr Jackson commented:
"I am hugely looking forward to leading the BA at a time when there is so
much public interest in science and vigorous public debate about the impact
of science and technology on our society. As an independent and national
organisation, the BA is ideally placed to stimulate public involvement with
science, and to further productive discussion between the public, the media,
scientists and government about scientific developments and the implications
they raise."
