Try to find some of their recordings from the 1940s and 1950s, available perhaps on the Specialty label. You might want to also get hold of some recordings by the even more visceral Five Blind Boys of Mississippi; again, look for recordings from the 40s and 50s, esp the ones featuring Archie Brownlee on lead vocals.
