Thank you, Douglas! Leithauser is a great fan of Laxness and invested a
great deal of time and effort to have his works reissued in the English
translations. To his mind, Laxness' greatest novel and one of the greatest
novels ever written is 'Independent People'. Many people agree with him, but
I hold both 'World Light' and 'The Bell of Iceland' in higher esteem. 'The
Fish can Sing' is definitely up there too.
